Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) Analysis

Strengths 

  1. Good relationship with other schools within the University and stakeholders (Pharmacy Council, Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, some Pharmaceutical companies)
  2. The uniqueness of the University is solely dedicated to health and allied sciences
  3. Strong student support system and engagement
  4. Cordial relationship with the Ho Teaching Hospital and its Pharmacy Department
  5. Strong collaboration with international institutions (University of Dundee (UK), University College London Hospitals (UK)
  6. Highly qualified academic staff 

 

Weaknesses 

  1. Inadequate state-of- the art laboratories
  2. No postgraduate programmes
  3. Low staff to student ratio
  4. Inadequate financial resources to maintain existing structures and equipment
  5. Insufficient funding to sustain the Third Trimester Field Practical Programme

 

Opportunities 

  1. To secure grants that support infrastructural development
  2. To work towards achieving WHO pharmacist to patient ratio in the country of 1:2,000 by training highly qualified pharmacists.
  3. Recruit highly qualified faculty and staff for the running of the School 

 

Threats 

  1. Existence of other pharmacy schools
  2. Centralized system of governance which creates undue bureaucracies and delays
  3. Over-reliance on Government subvention
