Objective 2: Academic Environment (Teaching and Learning)

To provide an academic environment that will stimulate innovation and improve teaching and learning.

 

Priorities

  1. Develop a professional curriculum designed to improve the knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes of students through research, innovation, and technology

  2. Transform teaching and learning utilizing modern pedagogy and technology in the professional program through faculty development and mentorship

  3. Enhance student support services and career development opportunities to enable students to reach their maximum potential

  4. Develop new partnerships with experiential education sites capable of offering IPPE and APPE

  5. Create an admissions strategy that leads to increased applications and admissions of highly qualified students to the PharmD programme

  6. Provide educational opportunities through undergraduate and graduate offerings that meet the healthcare and workforce needs of the nation

  7. Develop postgraduate training programmes that include a strategic focus on teaching, research, and career development.

  8. Recruit and retain talented diverse faculty.

  9. Use results of student and teaching outcome assessments to improve educational programmes.

 

Target

To make the School of Pharmacy a good place to study and acquire knowledge in the pharmaceutical and clinical sciences by providing quality undergraduate and graduate research programs designed to train new pharmacists, researchers, and investigators to work in interdisciplinary environments.

 

Indicators

  1. A holistic review of the current undergraduate programme per GTEC regulations. 

  2. Development of postgraduate curricula that focus on improving knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes of students through research, innovation, and technology. 

  3. Annual review of academic staff in teaching and specific training designed to meet the gaps identified

  4. Recruitment of at least twenty (20) highly qualified and experienced faculty and support staff over the period

  5. Recruitment of motivated, diverse, and qualified students through a widely publicised, transparent, and competitive admissions system

  6. SOP actively participates in the annual UHAS Education Fair, to advertise the school and its programmes to potential applicants

  7. Utilization of very effective support systems designed to improve student success and retention.
