Objective 7

Objective 7: State-of-the-art facilities for teaching and research in the school

SOP in the quest to achieve its vision of being a pre-eminent leader in pharmacy and pharmaceutical science research and education identifies the critical role of infrastructure. Training and conducting basic science and clinical research in the pharmaceutical sciences require a certain level of infrastructure, which currently is unavailable in the School. To fulfil the mandate for the establishment of the School, SOP hopes to put some measures in place in the short-, medium-, and long-term to secure facilities that will enhance its activities.

  1. Short term – identify the facilities in other schools in the University that could be beneficial for teaching and research activities in the School

  2. Medium-term – make requisition for the procurement of laboratory equipment by the University

  3. Long term – purchase of laboratory equipment in grant applications

Priorities

  1. Compile a list of equipment in other schools in the University that could be explored by SOP faculty and students for teaching and research.

  2. Establish memoranda of understanding with schools that can share equipment and facilities with SOP on the grounds of collaboration

  3. Compile lists of equipment needed by the various departments and make requisitions for procurement by the University

  4. Identify funding agencies that will support funding of infrastructural projects

  5. Embark on grantsmanship drive among faculty; encourage faculty to apply for grants and as part of that, including state-of-the-art equipment to be purchased

Target

Establish and maintain state-of-the-art facilities in the school for teaching, learning, research.
