THELMA MPOKU ALALBILA

Ms. Thelma Mpoku Alalbila is an experienced Clinical Pharmacist and Lecturer with demonstrated versatility in adapting to ever-increasing complexity in the healthcare industry. She has competencies in providing quality pharmaceutical care as an essential link in disease management, use of behaviour modelling and competency based training approach in impacting pharmacotherapeutics skills to both undergraduate students and Clinical Pharmacy residents.

 

Education

Ms. Alalbila obtained her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree in 2007(KNUST).She also obtained her Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacy at the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) where she specialized in Endocrine and Renal Pharmaceutical care.

 

Work Experience

Before the pursuit of her fellowship program; She worked in the Ghana health service for 8(eight) years,3 years as a Pharmacist of which 1 year was as the Acting Head of department and 5 years as a Senior Pharmacist at the Achimota District Hospital, Accra. She is currently a Clinical preceptor for Residents in Clinical Pharmacy of both Ghana College of Pharmacists (GCP) and West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) attached to the Volta Regional Hospital. In her current position, she specializes in Medication therapy management/pharmacotherapy, Infection prevention and control, Endocrine and renal Pharmaceutical care, Competency based learning and Medication Adherence strategies. 

Science /Research output

Ms Alalbila has a keen interest in the following areas:

  • Infection prevention and control
  • Quantitative and qualitative research
  • Drug utilization studies
  • Health and economic outcomes research
  • Antibiotics resistance (Point Prevalence)
  • Medication adherence to long-term therapies
  • Quality Improvement

Grantmanship

She has won a grant in “Enhancing Hospital Pharmacists Roles to support the Delivery of Antimicrobial Stewardship programmes in the Volta regional hospital, Ho” with the department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology being the lead.
