Dr. Jones Ofori-Amoah is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, UHAS.
He had his Bachelor degree in Biochemistry at the University of Ghana, and later pursued his postgraduate studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he attained his Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Pharmacology. Jones also holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Biological and Environmental Health Sciences (University of Ghana), Diploma in Health and Safety Management (IPED), and Diploma in Human Resources Management (ICM).
In addition, Dr. Jones Ofori-Amoah has undertaken Professional Development Courses in Monitoring & Evaluation in Global Health, and Project Management in Global Health (both from the University of Washington, Seattle-USA); as well as a Certificate Course in Tropical Medicine offered by the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM, Germany) & Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research into Tropical Medicine (KCCR-KNUST).
Work Experience
Prior to his appointment to the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), he worked as a Research Assistant (NSS) at the Navrongo Health Research Centre (NHRC-Navrongo), where he was involved in different clinical research projects on-going at that time including the “Malaria Vaccine (GMZ-2) Trial in Kassena-Nankana Districts of Northern Ghana” and the “Therapeutic Efficacy Studies on Artesunate/Amodiaquine in the Kassena-Nankana East District”. He also volunteered as an intern Pharmacy Assistant at JAB HealthCare Pharmacy Ltd. (Anwomaso, Kumasi) during his MPhil degree in Pharmacology.
Community Service
Dr. Jones Ofori-Amoah has served on several boards and committees within the UHAS university community since his appointment in 2015; including the 1st Ag. Head of Department, Module Coordinator, School Examinations and Registration Officer for the School of Pharmacy (SOP), and the SOP Representative on the Local Executive Committee (LEC), UTAG-UHAS. He also serves as a reviewer for many journals such as the British Journal of Pharmaceutical Research, Journal of Applied Pharmaceutical Science, British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research, etc
Research Interest/output
Jones has always been a research-oriented professional, has carried out a lot of collaborative studies and published a number of scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. His research focuses on natural products and ethnopharmacology, in tandem with respiratory pharmacology, inflammation and immunotherapeutics. This involves investigating the effects of traditional medicines or natural products as alternative therapies in the management of various respiratory and immuno-inflammatory diseases (such as asthma and allergies). He is also interested in public health and toxicology, especially those bordering on biological and environmental health.
