Dr. Augustine Tandoh joined UHAS in September 2020. He is a lecturer at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and is also a registered Pharmacist.
Education
Dr. Tandoh attained a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) Degree from KNUST, in June 2013. He went on to successfully complete his Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degrees in Pharmacology at the same University in June 2017 and November 2022 respectively. His PhD study focused on drug combination for the management of pain and inflammation. He is an alumnus of TReND in Africa.
Work Experience
Augustine has had the experience of teaching in Pharmacology and Biochemistry Laboratories and is knowledgeable in laboratory animal handling and research. Dr. Tandoh teaches pharmacology, biochemistry, physiology and toxicology theory as well as practicals to students across the different schools in the University. He is involved in many academic committees which promote visibility of the University.
Research Interest
Currently, Augustine is working together with other colleagues in his department on adapting and validating experimental models which utilize zebrafish in the study of diseases, pharmacology and toxicology. The research output is aimed at reducing the issues faced with using rodents in preclinical research including ethical considerations and financial cost. Current zebrafish experimental models being focused on include
• Neuro-pharmacological and neuro-behavioural research studies • Studies on pain • Studies on some inflammatory processes • Toxicological evaluations of some medicinal compounds and herbal preparations
If successful, he and his colleges hope to establish a fully functioning zebrafish laboratory for medical research, under the School of Pharmacy in the University.
