Mr. Charles Benneh is an assistant lecturer at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. He is currently a PhD candidate at the Department of Pharmacology, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Additionally, he is a member of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacist(WAPCP).
Education
Mr. Charles Benneh is a Pharmacist with an MPhil in Pharmacology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. His training so far has focused on murine and zebrafish neuropharmacology and preclinical pharmacokinetics. He is a fellow of the Next Generation Scientist program at Novartis Pharma AG (Basel, Switzerland). He recently completed skills training in Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics(DMPK) at the Wellcome Centre for Anti-infective Research(WCAIR) at the University of Dundee.
Work Experience
In the University, Charles teaches and delivers laboratory demonstrations in Physiology, Biochemistry, and Pharmacology.
Research Interest
Neuropharmacology
Drug metabolism and Pharmacokinetics
Charles’ main research focus is discovering neuroactive compounds with potential for management of anxiety, depression, epilepsy and pain. In addition, he has interest in in vitro and in vivo DMPK assays that complement CNS drug discovery. Charles’ recent research focuses on providing pre-clinical pharmacokinetic and neuropharmacological data of selected semi-synthetic derivatives of xylopic acid in mice.
