Professor Donatus W. Adongo
Head of Department
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the School of Pharmacy, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS). Our Department is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and service. We are proud to play a central role in shaping the future of health sciences education in Ghana and beyond.
Pharmacology and Toxicology are foundational disciplines that underpin the safe and effective use of medicines. In our Department, we provide high-quality teaching to students across multiple programs, ensuring that every health professional trained at UHAS acquires a strong grounding in the principles of drug action, safety and therapeutic application. At the postgraduate level, we offer MPhil and PhD programmes in Pharmacology and Toxicology, providing advanced training and fostering research that addresses both local and global health challenges.
Our research spans diverse and impactful areas, including neuropharmacology, natural product pharmacology, clinical pharmacology, pain and inflammation, cardio-metabolic diseases, toxicology, infectious disease pharmacology, DMPK and computational pharmacology/toxicology. Through innovative studies and collaborative projects, our faculty and students contribute to expanding the frontiers of knowledge while seeking practical solutions to pressing health needs.
We are also committed to building strong partnerships with academic institutions, industry and communities. These collaborations allow us to translate scientific discoveries into real-world impact, enhance healthcare delivery and contribute to policy development.
As Head of Department, I am privileged to lead a team of dedicated faculty, staff and students who share a common vision of advancing pharmacological and toxicological sciences. I invite you to explore our programmes, research activities and opportunities for collaboration and to join us in our mission to improve health outcomes through education, research and service.
