MAXWELL JENKINS GBEMU

Mr. Maxwell Jenkins Gbemu, is a Senior Laboratory Technologist at the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology, School of Pharmacy, University of Health and Allied Sciences Ghana. Prior to his appointment into the University, he was serving as Biomedical Laboratory Scientist at the Laboratory Department of the Ho Teaching Hospital. He is license by the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) and a Registered Member of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Sciences.

Education

Mr. Gbemu obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of Cape Coast, Central Region Ghana. Second cycle and Basic education he had in the Greater-Accra Region respectively.

Work Experience

Mr. Gbemu started work as National Service Person in 2011/2012 at the Laboratory Department of the Volta Regional Hospital in Ho Volta Region. He was among the few people who distinguished themselves during the service period by dint of hard and innovative work and were maintained immediately after service by the hospital. Mr. Gbemu has from 2012 being working as Biomedical Scientist with the Volta Regional Hospital  now Ho Teaching Hospital(HTH) till he joined the University late December, 2019.

Mr. Gbemu served as the head of the Molecular and Virology units and couple as the Logistics Manager in the Laboratory Department at HTH during the period. He was trained in Laboratory Quality Management System (LQMS) and became  the Regional Facilitator in the Volta region. Mr. Gbemu served as Regional Facilitator for the National Aids Control Program (NACP) of the Ghana Health Service on HIV related trainings.

Mr. Gbemu has acquired training in Stepwise Laboratory Quality Improvement Process Toward Accreditation (SLIPTA) by the World Health Organization(WHO)-Regional Office for Africa in collaboration with  the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Mr. Gbemu has served and continue to serve as Consultant for both public and private laboratories in the Volta region and beyond.

Science/Research Output

The use of molecular biology, biotechnology and microbiology tools (e.g. Real time and traditional PCR, Sequencing and microbiological culture capabilities in studying the resistance pattern of medically important microbial community and novel drug development.
