Education
Dr. Yamoah completed his bachelor of pharmacy degree at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 2003 after which he completed a Masters degree in Clinical Research with specialization in individualized (personalized) therapy at the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom in 2013. He earned his PhD degree in Pharmacy with specialization in pharmacovigilance at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa in 2019.
Moreover, He pursued a one-year certificate program in Management of Drug Supplies hosted by the Commonwealth Pharmaceutical Association (CPA) and the Robert Gordon University of Aberdeen in 2004 and a two-year tropical medicine research program, Professional Diploma in Project Design and Management at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), graduating in 2011.
Additionally, Dr. Yamoah received a fellowship training in Pharmacovigilance at the World Health Organization’s African Collaborating Centre for Advocacy and Training in Pharmacovigilance Centre in Accra, Ghana from June 1-26, 2015.
Work experience
Dr. Yamoah has a rich work experience in hospital, community and academic settings. He worked as a pharmacist at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for over 14 years at both the medical and surgical directorates where he made significant contribution to the development of pharmacy practice especially in the areas of evidence-based pharmacy practice, pharmacovigilance and practice research. Before he left KATH to join the School of Pharmacy at UHAS in January 2020, he served as a member of the Institutional Review Board overseeing the conduct of research at KATH.
Dr. Yamoah was appointed an adjunct lecturer and preceptor for 6th year Doctor of Pharmacy students by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, KNUST from August 2017 to July 2019 to impart knowledge and skills to these students.
On community pharmacy practice, Dr Yamoah also superintended 3 community pharmacies between 2005 and 2010 where he helped communities in disease management and counselling on medications and nutrition.
Research output
Pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology, vaccine safety, therapeutic drug monitoring, antimicrobial stewardship, diabetes management and medication adherence.
