Dr. Mike Okweesi Aggrey joined the University of Health and Allied Sciences in 2019 as a Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacognosy and Herbal Medicine. He is also a registered herbal medicine practitioner.
Education
Dr. Aggrey completed his undergraduate degree in BSc. Herbal Medicine from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana in June 2007. He further pursued his master’s degree in Chinese Materia Medica (Major: TCM Pharmaceutics) at the Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tianjin, PR China, and completed in June 2013 under the Chinese Government Scholarship. He later won a joint scholarship by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and The World Academy of Sciences (CAS-TWAS) for his PhD studies in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, PR China, undertaking his research at the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica. He completed his PhD studies in December, 2018.
Work experience
Dr. Aggrey worked as a Teaching Assistant at the Department of Herbal Medicine (KNUST) for his National Service. He later spent his internship years at the Food and Drugs Authority, Accra; Centre for Plant Medicine Research, Akuapem-Mampong; and Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital, Akuapem-Mampong, all in Ghana (2009-2010). He also undertook an internship at the Research and Development Center of TCM, Tianjin International Joint Academy of Biotechnology and Medicine, TEDA, Tianjin, PR China (2011-2012). Dr. Aggrey practiced as a consulting herbal medicine practitioner at Vital Assurance Health Centre, Kasoa, Ghana (2013-2014).
