Mr. Philip Apraku Tawiah is a Laboratory Technologist in the Department of Pharmacognosy and Herbal Medicine, School of Pharmacy, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho (Ghana). Preceding his appointment at the University, he was a tutor in the Science Department, Adonten Senior High School and served as the Science Resource Centre Coordinator of the same institution.
Education
Mr. Apraku Tawiah is a Laboratory Scientist with a Bachelor of Science degree in Laboratory Technology from the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Cape Coast and also holds a Professional Development Certificate in Business Administration Project Management option from Accra Business School, Accra. He is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health degree at the Department of Biological, Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, School of Public Health, University of Ghana and also pursuing certificate programmes at the Department of Global Health, School of Public Health, University of Washington, USA in the following courses; Introduction to Epidemiology for Global Health, Clinical Management of HIV and Leadership and Management in Health.
Work Experience
Philip spent three years in Adonten Senior High School teaching Elective Biology, Elective Physics and Integrated Science alongside organizing science practical lessons for students at various levels. He was also engaged as a Quality Control Personnel in the Quality Assurance Department, Avnash Industries Ghana Limited, Tema where he worked mainly analyzing food product (edible oil) and water from the raw materials through production stages to the finished product as well as performing other quality checks on packaging materials for these products.
Science/Research Output
Mr. Apraku Tawiah’s area of research are infectious and non-infectious diseases, environmental and occupational health. He is currently working on Hepatitis B virus infection among medical laboratory science students. The objectives of the research is to determine the prevalence of the disease, identify the risk factors as well as the preventive measures.
