NATHANIEL NII-ADU OKINE

 

Prof. Nathaniel

Professor Nathaniel Nii-Adu Okine joined the University of Health and Allied Sciences in 2019 as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

Education

Professor Okine attended Ebenezer Secondary School where he obtained his GCE/SC ‘O’ Level Certificate. He obtained his GCE/SC ‘A’ Level from Labone Secondary School, a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from the Chelsea College (Now King College, KQC), University of London, UK. Professor Okine is a Pharmacist, a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (MPSGH), a Member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (MPSGH) and a Member of the Social Academic and Research Pharmacists’ Association (SARPA).

Work Experience

Prior to his appointment, Professor Okine was a Lecturer (1988 to 2000), Senior Lecturer (2000 to 2007) and Associate Professor (2007 to 2013) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). From 2009 to 2013 he served as an Adjunct Professor at the Madonna University, Elele, Nigeria and was appointed Associate Professor at the University of Ghana between 2013 and 2015. Over the period Professor Okine had been teaching General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, and Physical/Analytical Chemistry including Spectroscopic Analysis.

Research Interest

  • Bioavailability and Bioequivalent studies of drug products on the Ghanaian market
  • Design and validation of novel analytical methods for drugs and medicinal agents in the bulk, formulations and natural products
  • Monitoring of pesticide residues in fruits commonly sold on the Ghanaian market and for export
  • Quality assessment of drugs on the Ghanaian market.
