CEDRIC DZIDZOR AMENGOR

Dr. Cedric Dzidzor Amengor is a Lecturer at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and currently the Vocational Training co-ordinator for the School of Pharmacy, UHAS.

Education

Dr. Cedric Dzidzor Amengor is a pharmacist with his doctoral philosophy in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.in 2016 He is also a commonwealth split-site scholar from the University of Greenwich, United Kingdom from 2016-2017. His training focused on the synthesis of ‘clicked’ compounds as potential agents against neglected tropical diseases (major in Leishmaniasis), tuberculosis and other WHO priority pathogens.

He also gained practical training in drug discovery process from the Next Generation Scientists Internship with Novartis Pharma AG (Basel, Switzerland).

Work experience

At the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Cedric teaches and demonstrates laboratory sessions in Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry. Prior to his appointment, he was a Lecturer at Kumasi Technical University and Royal Ann Health College, Kumasi.

Research output

The philosophy of his research group is the application of click chemistry in total synthesis and hemi-synthesis of natural products with potential improved biological activity and pharmacokinetic properties. This would also include long term view of probing the group of neglected tropical diseases that are prevalent in Ghana.

At present, the primary focus of the group is the development of new amide, ester and
1,2,3-triazole derivatives of betulinic acid potential improved biological activities.
His research interest also includes the synthesis of novel heterocyclic azo dyes as targets against Plasmodium falciparum. The long term project which is based on tentative UHAS GRANT is the synthesis of novel heterocyclic phosphonium salts as targets against Plasmodium falciparum.
As a pharmacist, he has interest in the quality analysis and control of pharmaceuticals including food products on the Ghanaian market.
Dr. Amengor welcomes enquiries at any time from potential collaborators regarding current or future projects.
