Operating from the main campus of the University, SOP has six (6) academic departments; namely, Pharmacy Practice, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacognosy and Herbal Medicine and Pharmaceutical Microbiology. The laboratory sections are managed by the School using the four (4) multi-purpose laboratories of the University at the Southern Campus. The Trafalgar Campus is situated within the Ho Teaching Hospital where students’ experiential training mainly takes place.
Our programme received a 3-year accreditation from the Pharmacy Council and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) ending June, 2022. We have enjoyed tremendous support from our stakeholders and benevolent individuals including the University Management, Ho Teaching Hospital, Pharmacy Council, Food and Drugs Authority, Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana and numerous community pharmacies across the country.
The School of Pharmacy faculty, staff and students pursue excellence guided by the University’s values and ethos of excellence, integrity, innovation and service and care. With the establishment of various committees reporting to the School Board and the development of internal quality assurance mechanisms, the School has developed an effective governance and administration system.
The School’s experiential training comprising Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE), Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) and Intra-Semester Practicum, provides students with real life active participation and in-depth exposure in various pharmacy settings. These experiential training sections augment students’ classroom education by providing experiences in many aspects of contemporary pharmacy practice.
Our faculty is highly focused on student success and are dedicated to bringing real life experiences into the classroom and clinical settings to enhance the learning outcomes of students. SOP believes in diversity and inclusivity and so our doors are open to staff and students from various tribes and nationalities.
